Unlike Türkenstrasse and Amalienstrasse, which are among the oldest streets in Munich and were laid out as early as the beginning of the 19th century, today's Georgenstrasse was still somewhat outside of Maxvorstadt at that time and was initially called "Tambosi-Anger" - it was not until 1856 that it was given the name Georgenstrasse by a rescript from the State Ministry.
